Dear Friends and Neighbors,

My sincerest apologies. I mistakenly labeled Alexa Whipple as the Mayor Tonasket – Alisa Weddle is the Mayor of Tonasket. She visited on Jan. 22 and was in the previous installment of my newsletter. Alexa Whipple is the Director of the Methow-Okanogan Beaver Project and was in Olympia for a work session where she gave a great presentation to the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.

Thank you to one of my constituents who caught this error.

Once again, the past few weeks brought several 7th District visitors to my office in Olympia, in addition to individuals and groups dedicated to working on important issues impacting Northeast Washington.

As we pass the halfway mark of the 2026 legislative session, I want to say a big thank you to all those who have visited Olympia, reached out via email and phone calls, testified remotely, or registered comments on legislation via online access. You DO make a difference! Thank you for your continued support and involvement!

In this week’s edition of “From our Frontier to the Capitol: Your Neighbors, Your Voice,” we have…

Ferry County Commissioner Zack Trudell and I on the House Floor:

Also visiting me on the House Floor, was Rosemary Shaw, Executive Director at Colville Together and Alison Price, Director at Rural Resources Victim Services for Survivor Advocacy Day:

Alisa Weddle from the Okanogan Beaver Project joined Rep. Hunter Abell and I at the Speaker’s Rostrum:

Colville Tribal Council Member Mel Tonasket along with Rep. Abell and I on the House floor:

This is the Colville Tribal delegation with me up in the House gallery which is open to the public when the House is in session:

I also visited with Jamie Lovato from the Spokane Tribe:

Aaric Ross, NEW Health Pharmacy Director, Desiree Sweeny, NEW Health CEO, and one of our predecessors, former 7th District Rep. Jacquelyn Maycumber who now serves as NEW Health’s Chief Strategy Officer, with Rep. Abell and I on the House floor. NEW Health is doing great things to serve the health care needs of rural Washington!

Students from Liberty Bell High School visited Olympia to provide testimony in support of one of Sen. Shelly Short’s bills. Rowan Kelley, Mira Hirsch, William Kiefer, and Orlo Parkinson impressed us all with their knowledge and dedication! You can read an article on their visit in the Methow Valley News here.

The next few days – and nights – will be spent debating, writing amendments, and voting on the House floor. I want you to know that with each decision I make on your behalf here in Olympia, I carry the conversations and concerns from so many of you who have shared with me. Thank you for your continued involvement and input. And, if you’d like to visit Olympia during the legislative session, please reach out to my office and we’ll do what we can to make your visit an informative and engaging one!

Sincerely,

Andrew Engell
