Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We are entering the final two weeks of the 60-day 2026 legislative session. I’m not sure which axiom describes it best: “Time flies when you’re having fun” or “Time is relative.” Either way, short sessions have a pace you have to experience to believe as some lawmakers try to cram as many bills into 60 days as possible!

Constituents from back home continue to have an impact on legislation here in Olympia. With over 100,000 signing in against the Democrats’ income tax bill, I know at least SOME of those people were from the 7th District! I even had a constituent point out a flaw in a bill just in time for us to draft an amendment that essentially kept us from having to introduce a new bill next year! Along with my license plate replacement bill, it’s obvious folks from Northeast Washington are educated, engaged, and involved! Thank you!

In this week’s edition of “From our Frontier to the Capitol: Your Neighbors, Your Voice,” we highlight these recent visitors…

Pend Oreille County PUD Commissioners Curtis Knapp, David Rick, and Troy Moody.

911 Goes to the Capitol: Executive Director of RiverCom 911 Doug Jones; E911 Coordinators Mike Worden from Okanogan County and Donnie Nigg and Dave Manning from Stevens County; and JoAnn Boggs, Deputy Director of Pend Oreille County’s Dept. of Emergency Management.

Chelan PUD Commissioner Randy Smith and Government Affairs Program Manager Kelli Scott.

Okanogan County PUD Commissioners: Scott Vejraska, Jerry Asmussen, with General Manager Randy Bird.

AgForestry Seminar – Class 46 visited Olympia to attend hearings, meet with agency leads and legislators. I’m a graduate of Class 42 and enjoyed spending time with this group of agriculture leaders.

WA Conservation District Day: Craig Nelson, Executive Director Okanogan Conservation District and Ryan Williams, Executive Director Cascadia Conservation District.

Nancy Nash-Mendez, Executive Director Housing Authority Okanogan County with Sen. Shelly Short:

Washington Federation of State Employees, Janet Breedlove and Denna Balcom from Stevens County to discuss priority legislation:

Apple Blossom Court Royalty from Wenatchee and East Wenatchee:

Nespelem Valley Electric Director Kevin Black with Board Member Ralph Rise:

I hope you find this little look behind the scenes interesting and informative. Every one of these visitors has an issue that they are working on or a goal they are trying to achieve for themselves or on behalf of a group they represent. As I always say, I may not agree with everyone, but my door is always open. I WILL listen to people who are advocating for what they think is right. In the end, I will do what I believe is best for those of us living in the 7th District and our communities based on my principles, my experience in the district, and the conversations you all have with me. I look forward to getting back to the district in a couple of weeks and meeting with you in your community. If you want to get on my schedule please reply to this email or call the office.

Thank you for allowing me to be your voice in Olympia. If you have questions or concerns, or ideas about potential legislation, please contact my office. We are here to serve you.

Sincerely,

Andrew Engell
